Tobie Named to Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team

Junior Honored for Impressive Work On and Off the Court

Montclair, NJ – Junior forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic) was named to Capital One Academic All-District women's basketball team announced on Thursday. Tobie, who was selected to the All-District 2 Team, is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team which will be announced later this season.

Tobie is the second women's basketball player in program history to be chosen to the Capital One All-District Team which honors players for their outstanding work both on the court and in the classroom. Jaimer Ericson was named to the All-District Team during the 2011-12 campaign.

Tobie has played a key role in helping the Red Hawks to another outstanding season. Montclair State is currently 17-2 and ranked No. 11 by D3Hoops.com and 13th in the latest USA Today Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. MSU is also 11-1 in the NJAC and sits atop the conference standings.

The 6-1 junior, named First-Team Preseason All-America by D3Hoops, currently leads the Red Hawks in almost every category. She leads the team in scoring (17.2 ppg), rebounding (8.1), assists (73) and blocks (44) and is second in steals (46), field goal percentage (.482) and free-throw percentage. She leads the NJAC in blocks and is ranked in the Top 10 in eight different categories, including Top 5 in five – scoring, field goal percentage, assists, blocks and assist-turnover ratio.

Tobie, the 2013 NJAC Player of the Year, has scored double digits in 17 of 19 games this season and recorded her 1,000th career points in the Red Hawks 71-67 win over William Paterson at home in November. She became the 18th player in program history to reach the millennium mark for scoring and she currently has 1,254 points which places her ninth on the all-time MSU list for points scored.

Off the court, Tobie is a four-time Dean's List student and earned a spot on the NJAC All-Academic Team. She is also a member of Montclair State's TALON assisting in several community service projects including the women's basketball team's association with Camp Quality which provides camping experiences and ongoing support programs for children with cancer and their families.
