Montclair, NJ – Junior forward
Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Tobie earns NJAC Player of the Week honors after becoming the 18th MSU basketball player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-career point mark. Against NJAC rival William Paterson, she rallied the No. 4 ranked Red Hawks back from a 10-point halftime deficit with a double-double which included 26 points (24 in the second half) and 10 rebounds, along with two steals and three blocks.
Tobie shot .500 from the field on 8-of-16 shooting and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, including four in the final seconds to seal the 71-67 come-from-behind victory. Tobie currently leads the NJAC in scoring (20.5 per game).
