Karin Harvey enters her 19th season at the helm of the Montclair State women’s basketball program. Under her guidance, the Red Hawks reached the “Sweet 16” four times, the “Elite 8” twice, and the Final Four in 2015.

The Red Hawks have won the NJAC Championship seven times under Coach Harvey and advanced to the Championship Game on more two more occasions.


Career Overview

  • Named interim coach in 2007 after serving as the Head Coach at Drew University in 2006.
  • Had interim tag removed on May 21, 2008 and became the 11th Head Coach in program history.
  • Guided the Red Hawks to NJAC Championships in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2024-25.
  • Led the Red Hawks to the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2019-20, and 2024-25.
  • Coached the Red Hawks to NJAC Regular Season Championships in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2020-21. Also led MSU to an NJAC North Division Championship in 2008-09.

  • Guided Montclair State to the NCAA Division III Final Four and a third place finish in 2014-15.
  • Reached the “Elite 8” in 2013-14 and the “Sweet 16” in 2012-13 and 2017-18.
  • Has won over 15 games in all but three seasons at the helm of the program.
  • Posted 20 or more victories eight times.
  • Became the programs all-time leader in wins on December 16, 2014 when the Red Hawks topped Marymount. Earned her 153rd victory, passing Maureen Wendelken for the most all-time.

Educational-Personal
  • Graduated from Aquinas College with a Bachelor’s Degree and earned a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies in 2000.
  • Was an Assistant Coach at Smith, and
  • Head Coach at Drew University in 2006, guiding the Rangers to a 13-14 mark and a school-record eight wins in the Landmark Conference.
  • Served as the Assistant Coach for women’s basketball for two years (2004-05 and 2005-06) and helped the team to an 18-10 mark in 05-06.
  • Served as the Head Coach of the volleyball program at Montclair and produced two All-Conference selections in 2006, the first time they had multiple selections since 2000.
  • Was an Assistant Coach with the women’s lacrosse team in 2006.
  • Served as an Assistant Coach on the Zag USA Team that earned a bronze medal at the Eastern University Games in July 2005.
